The Last Magazine celebrates the next generation of art, fashion, music, and underground culture. Published biannually in an oversized newspaper format and on thelast-magazine.com, The Last serves as an artistic platform for a new wave of talent. Conceptual in both format and spirit, The Last abides by no preconceived template, establishing new rules with every issue. Its a place for a fresh and completely unpredictable mix of people, places, and ideas. We feature the first and last of everything.

THE THIRTEENTH ISSUE OF THE LAST MAGAZINE

The Thirteenth Issue is all about collaboration; husband-and-wife pairings, new artistic teams, and spreads from the Last family. In fact, we invited a whole group of our new and old dear friends from the Last family to contribute with just a spread each. The result is a page-turner of great images that we are very proud to share with you. Inside this issue, you’ll find:

THE COVER: Andrea Diaconu stars in this escapist fantasy, shot by photographer Jeff Burton and styled by Alastair McKimm, in the Hollywood Hills. It’s not your typical cover, but we will leave “typical” to others.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF BEAUTY: We gave the spotlight to hairstylists and makeup artists, giving them complete freedom to fulfill their own creative ideas in a beauty portfolio. Concepts by Holli Smith, Shon, and Francelle.

EDITA VILKEVICIUTE: Photography by Lachlan Bailey and styled by Clare Richardson.

HOZIER: The Irish singer had the breakout hit of the year with “Take Me to Church.” We touch base just as he’s prepping his debut album. Written by Ashley Simpson, photography by Richard Gilligan.

MARC BY MARC JACOBS: Meet the new, all-female design team revolutionizing the influential brand. Photography by Nick Dorey, styling by Zara Zachrisson.

MARISSA: Photography by Maciek Kobielski.

THE LAST SUPPER: Dan Martensen and Clare Richardson opened their upstate-NY home for a one-day get together with food prepared by Alejandro Alcocer and a live performance by Bad Girlfriend.

ARTIST COMMISSIONS: New art, commissioned for the issue, featuring structural contrasts from photographer Nicholas Alan Cope and confiscated shivs, photographed by Anthony Cotsifas

JOHNNY FLYNN: the indie musician on his roots, discovering Mumford and Sons, and starring opposite Anne Hathaway in “Song One.”

JUNYA ISHIGAMI: Exploring the architect’s subtle work and a new storefront collaboration, written by Karen Wong, deputy director of the New Museum, in New York.

LAST THINGS FIRST: New works and profiles on Yelle, Hedi Slimane’s Rock Photographs, Hair by Guido Palau, Ben Lerner, 1.61, Kalda, and more.
